Oliver was born in Colchester, Essex and from a young age has had a passion to explore the natural world. Harding studied towards a BA in Contemporary Crafts at Falmouth University, graduating in 2017. It was there that he began to develop his, sometimes volatile, relationship with clay and glaze.
I have been focusing on an experimental and innovative use of glaze within the kiln, my approach focuses on how I create boundaries for this raw and unpredictable world. Through material investigation, I have become aware of letting the material speak for itself thus introducing a notion of chance. I have developed a series of works that show landscapes within the glaze and focus on the balance between surface and form. The forms that I produce are determined by an instinctive process; using my whole body to create large scale work, which reinforces my relationship with the material. My practice concentrates on developing a specialist knowledge of clay; understanding how different bodies will react through stress and tension.
